Slide is very small when I open powerpoint

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Whenever I open powerpoint, the slide is very small and the outline panel is very big. I have to resize the panels each time. It's not difficult, but rather annoying and never used to happen. Is there a setting I can change?
