Slide Master 2007

Why are there so many slide masters in 2007? Can I change to show just one or
two?

Show? They are automatically created from your theme and layouts. They
take up virtually no space in the presentation. However if you are trying
to limit choices of the builders/designers ...

To delete them, just right click and select "Delete layout'. That layout
will not longer be available in your presentation and the Master will no
longer be available or shown.

By default there is still but one slide master, the one at the top. The
slide master has 9 accompanying slide designs, which can be edited, deleted
if necessary (all but the first only title design). You can even build your
own designs if you want. That allows for much more flexibility and control
than previous versions.
