Slide Sizings-Plasma Screen 16 x 9?

I am new to PowerPoint and am designing a slide show that will be
viewed on a Plasma Screen and was given the dimensions 16" x 9",
significantly more horizontal than a standard slide.

I can not find anything that allows me to change the sizing of a
slide, and my 16 x 9 backgrounds overlap the slides by about double.

Is there any control to change the slide sizing, or should I design
the slides on the standard background and just account for the bottom
to be cut off?

File, Page Setup (or Slide Setup, whichever appears on the file menu)
Create a custom slide size that's porportional to your screen size.

That should be all you need to do.
