Slide transition timing is too long - can't adjust

I am creating a PowerPoint 2004 slideshow (on a Mac Powerbook G4) with
sound files embedded on each slide. I would like the slide to
transistion when the sound is done. I have set the transition to
automatic after 0 seconds, the sounds have no extra "dead air" before
or after them, and the sounds are set to start automatically with a
slide change. I am still getting a 7-10 second delay between sound
files, and I can't seem to fix it. I have done this before
successfully and I can't seem to locate the cause of the problem. Any
help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Brenda,

Maybe it makes a difference whether the files are embedded or linked. Look
in PowerPoint's preferences on the General tab. You can specify the maximum
file size for embedding.

I don't know whether embedding is faster or slower than linking (or maybe
the same) but try adjusting this setting and see if it makes a difference.

You'd have to remove the sounds and re-insert them after adjusting the setting;
changing it won't affect what's already been done, only what you do from then
on. In other words, setting the embed limit way high won't cause
already-linked sounds to become embedded.

I've noticed that embedding makes the overall performance slower, but
I have had no problems in the past with slide transition. I have to
embed, rather than link, because I need to move the file to and from
an external hard drive and the links are easily broken.
