Slider bar continues to increment when mouse hovers over arrow

I am using a slider control from the forms toolbar.
I also have a data table setup on my sheet and I view the results in a
graph..

My problem concerns the behavior of the slider bar in Automatic calculation
mode.
If I click (and release) once on the slider arrow the slider increments by
one, but then continues incrementing as long as the mouse pointer hovers
over the slider arrow (even though I click and release no more than once).
I just want it to increment one unit for one click and release, recalculate
and let me see the results on a graph, then I may click again to increment
one more and see the results again.

Is there a way to fix this?

John,

I think you're referring to a scrollbar. It isn't normal behaviour for it to keep changing
while the mouse hovers over it. I just tested to be sure (XL2003). If your mouse button is
sticking down, you'd get that behaviour. If you click a cell, then move to other cells, do
they all select (as if the button is stuck down)?

With the scroll bar, does the slider move? Does the linked cell increment? Have you tried
creating another to see if it behaves the same? Try that in a new workbook.

thanks for the reply.

You are correct in that I mean a scrollbar.
It is not a problem with the mouse button hardware being stuck.

If I switch to manual calulation the problem goes away. The scrollbar
functions normally.

If the Scrollbar is linked to a cell that does not force a big table
recalcuation there is no issue with the Scrollbar.
It is just when the linked cell causes a long recalculation that the
scrollbar misbehaves.
Yes the slider moves, and the linked cell increments in both manual and
autocalculate mode.

I think the problem is only seen in Autocalculation mode, when the sheet
takes a long time to recalculate (due to the large table).
I think Excel somehow mistakenly thinks the scrollbar arrow is being
repeatedly clicked (even though the mouse pointer is really
just hovering over the arrow rather than clicking on it) while it is busy
recalculating the table.
If you didn't have a recaluation time of 2-3 seconds you might not see the
problem.

That sho'nuff sounds like a bug. Perhaps you could use a scroll bar from the Control
Toolbox instead. It has a cell link, like the one from the Forms Toolbar.

Earl,

Its fine when I use the Control Toolbox Scrollbar.

I actually put the two scrollbars down on the sheet

and the Control Toolbox one functions fine, while the Forms version

still has the problem.
