Slideshow too big. Can't E-Mail it.

Andy I.

Hi,

I'm trying (for the first time) to create a slideshow with music to send by
E-Mail.
I have the slideshow prepared and it works fine when I play it. When I used
"Save As" to save it to "My Documents", .pps was not available. I saved it
as .ppt.

The trouble is the size of the saved file, over 20 MB! The total size of
pictures + music is only 2.2 MB. The limit on my server is 10 MB.
Also, what is delivered on opening the saved file is the window showing the
original setup, toolbars etc., where we click VIEW | SLIDESHOW to see the
show. Obviously I'm doing something wrong. I'd very much appreciate finding
out what it is!

Thank you.
Andy I. (WIN XP; Powerpoint 2002.)

Andy,
For cause and cure read this and see if it helps:

Luc's answer should take care of you. In case it doesn't, you might want to
check out the free PFC Express, which is a utility for emailing large
PowerPoint files:

Many thanks Luc and David. I'll save your posts for future
reference......yes , future, because for some unknown reason the problem
seems to have resolved itself. I composed a new slideshow using exactly the
same jpegs and MP3, saved it the same way as a .ppt and its size is only
1.53 MB. One clue, referring to your post, Luc, is that to "Drag and Drop"
graphics into the slideshow will apparently cause bloat, and that's how I
did it the first time.

Also, I'm now able to save as a .pps which produces the opening to the
presentation that I desired.

All's Well That Ends Well! Well..... almost All, but that..... is another
story.

Thanks again for your concern.
Andy I.

Yes, the drag and drop might have been a problem. The other thing that
recreating from scratch might have sidestepped temporarily is the issue
of Fast Saves (also described in the Web site Luc posted). If you had
Fast Saves on and made changes to the presentation, it would keep getting
larger. For example, if you add a large picture and decide later to add a
different picture and delete the original, the deletion will not impact
the file size. If you turn fast saves off, deleting things will reduce
the file size.

I'm glad you got it working and thanks for letting us know.
