Slipstream O2K3 Pro SP3: Wrong Patch?

David Trimboli

I've got an administrative install point for Office 2003 Professional on
my network, to which I have mapped drive letter Z:. I have installed a
new copy of Windows XP Professional and installed Office through this
install point. I go to Office Update and find that I need to download
and install Service Pack 3. I want to add this to the install point, so
I download the update, extract it to the desktop, CD to the new
directory, and attempt to integrate it with the following command:

msiexec /a z:\pro11.msi /p mainsp3.msp /log install.log

This fails with an error message, which is contained in the log:

If I attempt to install the update on the local machine, it works fine.

What's wrong?

Hi David,

For best results, I would apply the SP3 update directly onto the console of
the machine where the admin share resides (if possible), move the extracted
SP3 files to a simple local path like C:\OFF2003SP3\ and then use the
following command:

msiexec /a <local path to admin share>\pro11.msi /p
C:\OFF2003SP3\mainsp3.msp SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /L*v C:\OFF2003SP3\install.log
/qb+

If it still has problems, the verbose log generated will provide maximum
detailed information.

Hope this helps...
