Slow access to Network shares

When accessing a mapped Network share through file open
dialog box with Word (XP Pro sp2) on a NT4 server with
Sp6a it takes approx. 30 seconds. The OS on the PC WIN2k
sp4. If the mapped is accessed through Explorer it takes
approx. 5 seconds. There is approx 540 folders in this
share and no files in the root of the share.

Any help appreciated.
