Slow after update

I have two computers, one running Office XP (and WinXP)
and one running Office 2000 (and Win2K). Yesterday I
updated both of them through the Microsoft Office Update
site.

Now, Word and Excel are torturously slow to start up.
Literally taking between 60 and 120 seconds - that's 1 to
2 minutes!

The only thing that has changed on either system is the
update. What did Microsoft do to my system and how can I
make it run smoothly again.

Thanks.

I am having the same problem on both my laptop and
desktop, this just started happening tonight. Did some
virus just hit the world? If you get any word about how
to fix this, please email me.

Thanks,
Mick Hewitt

I am having the same problem. On Office Online, I
downloaded Office XP updates on 3 of my computers. Now
Excel is taking over 1/2 a minute to load on all 3 of my
computers (and it also takes a long time to access a
spreadsheet file). Any ideas what happened with these up-
dates? Thanks.

I found the solution. Open Norton Anti Virus 2003. Go to
Options. Go to Miscellaneous. Unclick "Enable Office
Plug In" and you are back in business.

I found that after doing the big Norton update yesterday this happened to me
as well. Also happens when trying to close folders or rightclicking and
going to properties of folders.

I did try turning off "Enable Office Plug In" and found that fixed the
Office problem. Isn't that a bad idea to turn off that feature?

I had same problem, everybody. But I'm guessing Symmantec (sp?) must have run into this as well, as I just did Live Update, and now my documents are opening quickly again. So try it. If it works ok for you...turn back on the office plug-in.
