Excel seems to take a long time to "fully open" and become functional. I just loaded the latest update and it takes more than a minute and a lot of spinning ball interruptions before I can really get started.

Also, is there a way to save a working layout? I do not like to have to set up menus, window size, zoom factor, etc. every time I open the program.

Slow launch:
Does the problem every time you launch Excel or just the first time after
installing the update?

Save your working layout:
1. Open a new workbook in Excel.
2. Set your workbook properties to the way you want them.
3. Select File->Save.
4. Select XLTX format.
5. Name the file "Workbook" with no extension.
6. Change the path to /Applications/Microsoft Office
2008/Office/Startup/Excel.
7. Click the Save button.
8. Quit Excel.
9. Relaunch Excel and verify that workbook properties are what you set in
step 2.
