Slow copying

Jonathan Pool

Copying anything from any worksheet (even a single cell in a new
worksheet) has started to take 15 seconds or more (Excel 2004 11.3.5).
The wait wheel spins, and finally the marquee appears. Sometimes
there's another 15-second wait after I press the ESC key to dismiss
the marquee.

No other applications, MS or otherwise, exhibits any such problem.

I have found no other reports of this bug.

Remedies attempted include:
1. Booting in safe mode. While in Safe Mode, the bug is not present,
but it recurs after a normal restart.
2. Removing com.microsoft.Excel.plist from ~/Library/Preferences.
3. Removing Microsoft from ~/Library/Preferences.
4. Removing StartupItems from /Library.
5. Disabling most items from Login Items.
6. Reinstalling Update 11.3.5.

None of these removes the bug.

No offense, Jonathan, but in view of how long the product has been in use &
the universally common nature of Copy/Paste, I tend to think it _might_ be
something local to your current system conditions rather than a "bug" in
Excel :)... otherwise there most certainly would be [at least] a few other
reports.

When's the last time you ran Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions? While
you're at it you might as well run Verify Disk just to be on the safe side.

If that alone doesn't resolve it, tell us a little more about the situation:
Is this a new development - If so what may have changed about the same time
it started? Which version of OS X? What type of Mac? How much RAM, free disk
space?

Doesn't sound like a bug to me. Or anything else to do with XL.

Since 1 removes the problem, it sounds like something else (a haxie?)
that's running is being triggered by the change to the clipboard.

If you run Activity Monitor, does a process jump in CPU% during the
interval between when you copy and when the marquee appears?
