Slow Directory Listing w/ LAN connection

Have a strange problem with a laptop on our network.

When the use is connected to the network (or actually any network, like home
or at a client site) when he attempts to save a file through FILE --> SAVE or
the SAVE button in any Office application, when the save box comes up and he
clicks on the down arrow to show the Active Directory Tree and choose a
subdirectory to save the file in. It takes a very long time for that
directory structure to appear.

Now when he isn't connected to a network, just using his laptop offline,
when he does the same thing, the directory structure list is instant.

So it has something to do with being connected to a network, no other
machine on our system has this problem

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop,
left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped
drives that are not currently available.

Forget it I figured it out. He had a mapped network drive that no longer
exsisted and was causing a timeout.
