Slow document load in Word

Loading even the smallest .doc file into Word is taking up to five minutes.
I had bad memory which was replaced at a service shop. While there they
supposedly got rid of garbage that was slowing the computer down. Since
getting it back Word program is slow to load and documents take forever. I
have reinstalled OFFICE but get no improvement.
