Slow Excel X: has Microsoft solved the problem yet?

There are threads going back 12+ months on the extreme slowness of
Excel X in comparison to all previous mac versions (especially when
running macros). So far as I can tell, no solutions or updates have
been posted. If I have missed something, please let me know.
Otherwise, what gives, microsoft?
