Slow, fast, fast, slow

P

Philip De Jonghe

I hope I post correct here.

Got myself a new Dell M65 with an NVIDIA Quadro FX 350M on board. Switching
from a generic Intel Graphics GPU on another pc, I find Visio not performing
as expected. Other software (Adobe, OpenGL software) runs just fine. Any
ideas on what to tune to improve the redrawing speed of Visio. Dragging
objects is well, urmmm, a drag...

Tnx
Philip

Philip,

We have tracked this issue down to some very old graphics code used to do
redrawing while dragging. This code makes calls to the graphics card in a
very inefficient way. Ironically, dragging is faster on many older graphics
cards because they were optimized differently. There's nothing that can be
done with the current Visio here, but we have rewritten this code for Visio
2007 to dramatically speed things up.
