Slow file browsing in Oxp only

J

Jamie

In the last 4 days I have noticed extremly slow file browsing within Office
applications. It is only in Office Apps that I have the problem. Basically
if I click the save as option or open option and try to navigate to a
location it takes about 1 min per every dir refresh. So if I have to
navigate through 15 dir's to get to the location I need to get then it would
take me at a min. of 15 min to finally get to the location.

Any suggestions?

This looks good but where is the download?

Says I need to contact Microsoft but will they want a credit card up front?

You need to get the download directly from Microsoft. Call
1-800-936-4900 and tell them you need to obtain the hotfix referenced
in KB 818792

There is no charge for a hotfix and you should not be asked for a
credit card or any form of payment. (Unless of course you ask for more
than the hotfix. <g>)

Ok I have the fix I have tried installing it (which I'm pretty sure I have
not done correctly) and it still does not function. The readme.txt and
hotfix.txt do not give proper instructions on how to install this hotfix.

Hi Jamie,

The hotfix should automatically install correctly.

I don't have the hotfix so I don't know what instructions are provided
in the readme.txt or hotfix.txt files. However, the KB article
provides the additional instruction you need. Once the hotfix is
installed then you need to edit the Registry per the KB article and
add the new key.

Note a requirement of the hotfix is Windows XP SP-2 (also covered in
the KB article)

If you don't have this patch installed then that could account for why
you are still seeing the delay.

Beth thanks for you help but it must not be the same issue. It sure meets
the description. It is still slow. I have followed the KB article line for
line. I am using Oxp Sp2 and did look for the file they mention and it was
the version they discuss in the KB article. I setup the reg entry and it
still doesn't work. One thing that is a bit different on my end compared to
the KB article. It happens when you are using the save or open box and the
KB article never mentions the problem when saving. Also it happens
everytime I click on a new folder the article makes it sound like it is just
when you first hit the open button. Mine is as soon as I start browsing and
happens everytime I want to go to a new folder during the browse.
