Slow Macros

J

Jerry Loo

I just upgraded to Panther and Excel X with the update from using
system 9.1 and Excel 98. I found that my macros are going a lot slower
when extracting information from a database. I already tried using Disk
Utility Repair Permission. That doesn't seem to fix the problem.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

The answer may not be what you're looking for. To run OS X with all its
elaborate windowing, huge number of files, and such greater complexity,
you'll need a faster computer with a more powerful CPU and a lot more RAM
than you ever needed back in OS 9.

Hi Jerry,

I'm a little surprised to hear that. My experience with Panther so far is
that it rivals OS 8 and 9 for speed. Paul is probably onto something with
his suggestion about memory.

How fast is your processor? How much real RAM do you have installed?

Hi Jim,
I have a 350 PowerPC G4 and 512MB SDRAM.
If memory is my problem I probably can beg for more from IT.
Thanks Jim

Hi Jerry,

Mine is only slightly faster than yours - 400 mhz, and it's quite peppy with
most macros. Be sure you have installed the updates
10.1.2
10.1.4
10.1.5

Running repair permissions after installing the udpates can help. If things
are still slow, maybe its time to get out DiskWarrior, Norton Utilities, and
TechTools Pro and see if the file structure is OK.
