Slow opening mail merge document

I have command buttons on a form to open mail merge documents, and on one
computer some documents (with more fields) take over a minute to open. The
database only has 800 records and I am concerned that it will get even slower
as it grows.

The computer is a Dell dimension 2400 with 256 MB. I cannot install upgrades
to Windows as the computer then keeps crashing. Would adding another 1 GB of
memory help or is it only speed of accessing the hard drive? Do I need a new
computer? Any other suggestions?

Thanks
Dudley

It could very well be network related.

Are we talking about a split application (front-end containing the queries,
forms, reports, macros and modules, linked to a back-end containing the
tables and relationships)? If not, split it. If so, where is the front-end:
on the user's hard drive (where it should be), or on the server?

The database is split on a peer to peer network and the back end is on the
other computer, but as a test I made a copy with the front and back end and
Word documents all on the user's computer and it did not make any difference
to the speed.

Something seems wrong.

Why not give my pre-built word merge system a try..and then compare the
performance.....

You can find my sample here....

If my example runs fast, perhaps there is something wrong with your code. IF
my example runs slow, then at least we know it is your computer!!

So, try setting up my merge in your application. (there is step by step
instructions on how to do this at the above web site....).

Thanks very much. I remember you did make the suggestion before when I raised
a similar question and I found the code difficult to follow but I will have
another go at seeing how you do it.

Thank

I have tried this and could get it to link to the table, but not a query. Is
this possible?

Thanks very much for your help.
