Slow Opening Programs

Hello all,

My Office 2003 software takes around 20-30 seconds to open a saved file, but
if I open Word, Excel, Access etc. directly the program opens right away. I
tried installing two different copies of Office 2003 and the same thing
happens. The only thing different about my system software is that I
installed a different copy of Win XP.

When I click on a saved file or shortcut to an Office file sometimes I get
the error message that say's "There was a problem sending a command to the
program" whether it be Access, Excel or other Office program.

I tried making copies of saved files and sometimes the copy opens right
away, other times not. I have used the same system for 2 years and never had
this problem until now, but this started only after installing a different
copy of WinXP.

Cannot say for sure if the problem is XP related, but it's the only thing
that's different on my system.

Hello all,

I finally solved my own problem with Office 2003 slow opening programs. The
culprit turned out to be my HP Photosmart C7200 software. For some reason
whenever this software is running my Word, Excel, Access and other files
located on the hard disk have long delays before opening. If I run the
programs directly and then open a file everything is fine, but clicking a
file to open the Word, Excel, Access file will cause a long delay to happen.
Uninstalling the HP software returns everything back to normal.

A second problem I ran into was when I installed Office 2003 from my ROM
drive that is designated as drive (G:). After Office was installed from this
drive whenever I tried to run Word, Excel or any of the other Office suite I
would get a popup window asking for the path to PRO11.msi. Upon providing
the path to PRO11.msi Office would sit there and do nothing at all. I
finally copied all files from the Office 2003 CD over to my hard drive (D:)
and installed Office from there. Office then ran normally without a hitch.

So, in my experience and on my machine Office 2003 appears to have a problem
being installed from a path whose drive letter is G: or higher. Have not
tested this on any other machine, but it fails on my system every time.
Anyone else experience this bizaar behavior from Office 2003 please post back.
