Slow opening/saving office 2003 in office 2007

We just upgraded to office 2007 and now whenever our users open office 2003
files, by either double clicking or file open, it takes awhile to open the
file. When changes are made or even if just closing word it takes a few
seconds (20-30) to save changes and/or close out of word/excel. If the same
document that is slow to open is saved as a office 2007 document then
saving/closing/opening is normal. I don't think my users would like it if i
told them they had to save all their docs to office 2007....

Does it happen if you open Word in Safe Mode? From Start | Run, type in

winword /a

and press enter. Try opening a document and closing it and Word to see if it
is still slow.

If it is still slow, did you make any other changes when you upgraded such
as changing the server or the location of templates or folders? Does it
happen to new documents as well as older documents? Have you run all the
updates to Office 2007?

winword /a did not work. New files that are created run perfectly. If I
save the word 2003 file as a word 2007 document the file opens/closes/saves
with no problems. Just word 2003/97 documents that are the issue.
Everything is run locally, all templates etc....

My guess is that the older documents are attached to templates that have
either moved or no longer exist. Open one of the problem documents and check
to see which template they are attached to. If you have had a new server
recently, the chances are the template was moved. The simplest solution is
to get the server admin to use the Redirector to point to the template's new
location.

I did not upgrade to Office 2007 and have the same thing happening to me on
my desktop and laptop. It takes about 5 minutes to open my files. Since I
did not upgrade to Office 2007 or change templates, so I think the advice
given by Terry Farrell is not accurate. This delay in opening files started
after a Microsoft update was installed on each computer within the past two
weeks.

How do I isolate this Microsoft update and delete it?

Thanks!

The same incident has been keeping me busy for days, struggling to find a
solution. It was driving my customer and me mad.

Finally I uninstalled all Office updates up until Service Pack 2. Problem
went away...

So I think it is safe to say that one of the latest updates is causing this
problem....
