Slow Opening WORD

I am sure this has been answered many times but I cannot find a thread!
Opening MSOFFICE WORD 2000 has become extremely slow on my machine
(Win98se). Once open it behaves perfectly but the slowness in getting there
is infuriating. this has not always been the case! Any help please?

Is the anti-virus software the thing taking the time? Turn off option to
scan Word files.

Check for any disconnected network drives.
Could also be caused by anti-virus software, if so, check what scan options
you have set.
