Slow Performance with Word 11.1 on OS 10.4

My performance has become unbearably slow. I have modified my Font
Book, checked for updates, re-installed, re-installed updates...all to
no avail. I also tried using other views and layouts. This happens
when I simply create a new document and start typing.

Anyone have any suggestions? I experience has now been reduced to
typing in TextEdit and Copying to Word. This is getting silly.

Hi Spencer,

There are a couple of possibilities. First, check your Save preferences.
Do you have "Allow Fast Saves" checked? If so, uncheck it and leave it
unchecked. It's an obsolete setting that does nothing but slow Word down.

If it's not that, I would suspect a third-part software conflict. Quit Word
and then hold down the shift key while you relaunch it. That will disable
all add-ins (and the current Normal template) until the next time you
relaunch. Now start typing. If things zip along then you know there was a
conflict somewhere. Start disabling your add-ins until you find it. More
