Slow response from Outlook 2003 with MS Word as editor

I recently upgraded to Office 2003 and am experiencing some serious delays in
Outlook. When I Reply, Forward, or create a New email, it will take 7-10
seconds for the new message to open up. If I change my options and de-select
MS Word as my email editor, the new email message opens up right away.

I like using MS Word for the auto-correct and spell check reasons, but I
can't stand the slow response time. Does anyone know how to fix or minimize
this slowness???
