Slow response opening office-xo document in office 2007

We have 2 locations, one in UK and one in India.

Since upgrading to Office 2007, when a user in India trys to open a local
copy of a document created in UK, that was created using a UK template it
trys to open the template back in UK. Thus causing an unacceptable response
time. We did not experience this slow response when opening the same
documents in Office XP

Please help
