This has been true forever and across multiple systems. All XP Pro.
All running OL2003 SP2 with all current updates installed. No
Exchange, just POP email.
When sending/receiving email Outlook slows down the whole machine.
CPU utilization goes way up and it takes seconds sometimes to get UI
elements to respond. It just seems that it is best to leave it alone
until it is done rather than fight it.
Is there a way to deal with this? Perhaps change Outlook's priority
level or something like that? I mean, why does it require 80% CPU
utilization to check and receive email. You should be able to tell it
to go slow and let you get your other work done.
Thanks,
-Martin
