Slow Scrolling with Excel 12

Is it normal for Excel 12 to scroll, page up, page down & other movements in a very slow manner. Using the arrow up & down keys has a 3-5 second delay before the highlighted cell moves. This is with a 2400 row by about 150 column spreadsheet. Larger than some but small in comparison to the 1 Meg rows & 16 K columns. Is there any work arounds for this.

Numbers has this problem too.

That doesn't sound normal to me - what hardware are you running XL12 on?
What OS version? Does it perform this way with ALL applications closed?
Do you have any haxies running?

I'm running on a 2.4 GHz MacBook Pro with 4GB RAM under Leopard (OSX
10.5.1), and scrolling or paging on a 300 column by 5000 row sheet
starts instantly, and while the actual scrolling speed isn't blazing,
it's not glacial, either.

Can you use Activity Monitor to see how much CPU %age XL uses while
scrolling?

I have an Intel MacPro about 17 months old. Processor: 3 GHz, memory: 13 GB, hard drives: striped RAID 2 WD Raptor 150 GB drives, 2 Seagate 750 GB drives for data storage, backup & alternative systems (like 10.5.1), OS 10.4.11 on the above mentioned hard drive or OS 10.5.1 for testing & watching video artifact lines, Video cards: ATI1600 running the Apple 23" (1920X1200) & 30" (2560X1600) displays, Nvidia 7300 GT running a 28" ViewSonic (1920X1200) & Westinghouse 47" (1920X1080) displays.

Excel scrolls at a normal speed, sometimes faster than you want. Excel 12 is even slower now than when I made my original post. Most like 5 seconds for a fast scroll or page up or page down.

Everything runs very fast other than scrolling on a like sized Numbers spreadsheet. So who copied who on this point? That leaves all of the many programs that run in the background or foreground. Also I have both version of Excel on my system (11 & 12). With other versions this has not made any difference.
