Slow startup issues

Hi,

I need some help. I'm about ready to open a case with MS Support but I know
that once I do, they'll probably tell me to update some of my software.

I have a handful of PCs, probably 1/10th of my domain, that are experiencing
problems with office products. The problem they are experiencing is that
Word and Excel open very slowly when they first activate the program. Any
successive starts comes up just fine, (I'm thinking that it's in memory by
that point). All of my systems are configured pretty much the same way,
they were all created via a SYSPrep image, the software installations have
all been done via an automated install, and all PCs are getting patch
updates via WSUS. I can't identify any issues with my Office XP automated
installation that includes SP3.

All of these machines are running Win2K Pro, all are on an AD 2003 domain,
and everyone gets email from an Exchange 5.5 server. I have a virus scanner
and spyware scanning running on these machines and have run these program
manually to see if any intruders might be causing the problem. I've looked
at the 'Processes' and 'Applications' in Task Manager but can't seem to find
anything out of the ordinary, maybe I'm just not looking at it correctly.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can look at to possibly
identify this initial slowness that some of my users are experiencing?

Thanks in Advance,
JeffH
