For those who are looking to the solution, not the 'why', on a slow startup
and high % usage of Word 2003, you need to replace the Normal.dot file. It's
probably corrupt.
Replace the file in C:\Documents and
Settings\UserName.DomainName\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates with a
'good' Normal.dot file. Just make sure that Office 2003 and other appls that
use Word etc are inactive. The file is in a hidden directory. I'd suggest
you rename the 'bad' Normal.dot to 'OldNormal.dot' AND the ~$Normal.dot to
'Old~$Normal.dot'.
This worked for us as launch time went from minutes to fractions of a second!
