slow startup

I have an application that opens in about 40 seconds and while it is a bit
slow that is quite acceptable. However when furthet users open up it takes 6
minutes. I know that subsequent users will be longer but I have never seen it
take this long. The data is on a mapped server drive and the front ends on
the individual user machines.

Is this anything to do with the way the server location (where the data is
stored) is mapped to the individual machines?

One possibility (from painful personal experience!) is that the network
gurus have added/updated an antivirus program that "inspects" every
transaction between Access FEs and BEs.

What do you mean by further users? Subsequent users or users many
miles/kms away?

Not necessarily.

You mean UNC vs a drive letter? No.

All the users are in the same room, one floor up from the server. I have
always seen the first user get into the system faster but am concerned about
the 6 minutes for 2+. If they all come out of the system and another machine
opens up that machine goes in OK so it is not machine dependant. I dont think
they will accept 6 minutes and at a bit of a loss

Thanks

Ok, good. Then you definitely want to start with the first few items
on that Performance FAQ page.
