Slow sync folders

I have several local email accounts (gmail, my ISP ...) and several online
accounts (hotmail, AOL ...)
When I browse my local folders it's all working fine.

But each time that I switch from local folder to hotmail inbox folder (or
any other folder in hotmail or AOL), my Outlook 2007 automatically starts to
synchronize the folder and it takes about 15-30 seconds.
It's very annoying ...

It there any way that:
1. This synchronization will work in the background like in Outlook Express
2. Or this synchronization will take place ONLY when I click on
Send/Receive, even if I juts started Outlook.
