Slow to convert to text

I am dealing with a user that is using Onenote 2007 to take
handwritten notes on his tablet and then have OneNote convert them
into text.

Up until recently, there hasnt been any issues doing this. His
writing is fairly neat and OneNote has been doing quite well with the
conversion.

Now, it is taking FOREVER! Even with just a simple 3 word sentence.
Nothing else is running when this occurs.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Onenote 2007 no service packs, installed version (not trial)
Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
HP Compaq tc4400 Tablet PC

Hmmm....what antivirus software is he using? Have you defragmented the hard
drive lately? How much free disk space?

We are using the following:

Cisco Security Agent v 5.1
McAfee Enterprise 8.5
80 GB hard drive - he has only had this laptop for a few weeks so I
can only estimate that he must have at minimum, 75 GB free still.

I havent defrag'd simply because its brand new but its worth a try!

As a test, try disabling McAfee's live scanning feature and see if that
makes a difference. You can reenable it after the test - I just want to
eliminate McAfee as a possible cause.
