Slow Typing

I am using Office System 2003. My computer is a 1.33GHz box with 1GB
of RAM. Word, of all things, show not be having a slowness issue.

Everytime I type a character in Word 2003, there is about a 0.5 second
delay between the time I hit the key and the time it shows up on the
screen. ALso, my cursor blinks VERY slowly (in other apps, it blinks
normal). As I type, my cursor also dissappears for up to a few seconds
until after I stop at which point it starts blinking slow again. This
makes it very hard to keep track of where I am sine I use the keyboard
alot to naviage through my document to correct errors and such.

This problem hasn't happenend until I started using Word 2003. What
can be done to fix these problems, and is anyone else seeing these
issues?

Right after I posted this message, it got worse. Now if I type too
fast for too long, I can stop and it'll take it a few seconds to
finish typing what I was typing. This is like typing on a type writer
that you can type faster than. Does everyone else's installation do
this as well? I can't take much more of this awfulness...

First, I'd check to make sure my computer is not "clogged up" with other
programs running in the background.
Make sure you have Windows updated, viruses are updated and there is no
spyware installed on your computer.

You might consider disabling your anti-virus as you type. See if that speeds
up your computer.

Other than that, you might have to have someone look at it to make sure your
computer is optimized.

I saw problems with Word 97, running on XP Pro with what should have
been more than adequate processor speed, hard disk space and RAM. Word
pushed up processor activity to 100% when I typed at my normal rate, or
when it was in customization mode the menu bar and toolbars - even if I
sat there doing nothing.

You're not alone in your suffering!

My computer was a Compaq Evo - maybe this had something to do with it.
It got very, very hot when I ran Word, but wasn't bothered at all by
intensive scientific calculations that I ran in other software.
