Slow when open attachment in Outlook

Hi,

Anybody experience slowness when open attachment > than 1Mbyte would take
more than 5 minutes (sometimes) to open? Kindly share with me how you managed
to solve the problem. Thanks in advance!

Environment:
Outlook 2003 SP2
Exchange 2003 SP2

Yes, I experience the same situation with the same environment as you.
However, since my Exchange Server is located at the other side of the
planet, and the connection is less-than-perfect, I expect this to be so.
I think there is nothing I can do about it, but be patient with large
attachments. (Same with large inline images.)

If your Exchange Server is local with a good connection; how are other
users in your area dealing with the same issue? Faster than you?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, I am the only person affected by this problem. I am in the
location where the exchange is, not remote connections. Further, our
organization's policy is to turn on Outlook cache by default. So opening of
attachement should be all done locally on my hard disk. Of all the colleagues
i talk to, it seems like I am the only one experiencing this issue.
*puzzled*. I have changed by laptop to a new one, reformat my Windows XP. It
appeared OK initially when I reformat the laptop, but the problem came back
after about 1 month.

Well what is the antivirus you use?

Try out a windows safe mode if you can ( windows safe mode with networking)

To go to it,

Using the F8 Method

Restart your computer.
When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment
that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed
etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are
presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
Do whatever tasks you require and when you are done reboot to boot back into
normal mode.

Hi,

We have Mcafee antivirus. I tried in safe mode, it worked fine. But not in
normal mode.
Any ideas how to resolve this problem in normal mode?

Try uninstalling McAfee and reinstalling without the mail scanning feature.
You'll still be protected.

thanks for the suggestions. But in our environment, we can't reinstall due to
the source is not available user. Mcafee are all pre-package into the post OS
setup. Furthermore, our mcafee version does not come with the email scanning
features.

Do you have any other add-ins? What yuo say "safe mode", do you mean
Outlook's safe mode or Windows' safe mode?
