Slow with linking to Outlook Contacts

I am linking an Outlook Contacts table in my database and use this to
fill in fields for contacts. It seems very slow using the drop down box for
selecting a contact.
When doing a straight import the drop down selection is a lot faster.
Is this normal, and is there any way to speed this up.
