slowness in opening word document

It sometimes takes almost 30 to 60 seconds to open a word document of save a
document on a mapped network drive. Browsing the network is quick, but open a
word document is slow. Once opened, I can open another one quickly, but after
15 minutes, the slwness returns.

Any suggestions?
