Smart art changed to a picture in the document

I opened a saved file that contained a smart art heiracy chart and tried to
modify it and i was changed to a picutre and i can not change it now. How do
i change it back to a smart art?

Hi D.,

If you save it as a Word97-2003 format file (.doc) or if you saved it as a Word 2007 file (.docX) but with Word97-2003 compatibility
set then the new interactive features, such as SmartArt will be displayed as pictures.

With the document open, if you click the Office Button and see a 'Convert' choice that may reactivate the Word 2007 feature set.
