Smart Quotes

I receive several long Word documents each day that I want
to place into another application, but the other
application does not like my curved quotes. I need to
change all of the quotes to vertical kind. I'm sure that
this is a simple question, but I can't seem to locate a
way to make this change. Is it possible?

Bland,

Switch off "use smart quotes" in Tools>AutoCorrrect Options>AutoFormat As
You Type and then use Edit>Replace. Type a " in the find what and a " in
the replace with windows and select replace all.

One way of doing this would be to highlight the whole
document by pressing "CONTROL + A" and then changing the
font to ARIAL (which uses straight quotes), however this
may change the spacing, etc., in the document and may not
be the font you want to use anyway.

Otherwise, go to the Format menu, click on "Autoformat"
(this comes after the arrow at the bottom of the Format
menu in Word 2000); then click on "Options"; then select
the "Autoformat" tab and UNTICK the words "Replace
straight quotes with smart quotes"; then select
the "Autoformat as you type" tab and UNTICK the same words
again.

Hope this helps bro.

Under HELP search for smart_quote. The procedure to do what you want is
outlined there.

Arial does *not* use straight quotes, though they appear straight on the
screen at 100% zoom.
