smart tags and e-mail attachments

We've recently encountered problems with clients being
unable to open our Word attachments and I am wondering if
SmartTags might be the cause. If SmartTags are included in
a Word 2002 document, what happens when it is opened in
lower versions of Word or WordPerfect. Could this cause
recipients to be unable to open Word 2002 attachments?

Hi Liela,

I'd say SmartTags probably aren't the cause. More probably
would be that the attachments are getting garbeled during
transmission. Word documents are known to be especially
susceptible to this. It's usually a good idea to ZIP Word
documents for emailing; this provides a level of "protection"
to the binary file format.
