Smart Tags linked to contacts in public folder

Office XP & Exchange Server 2003
I am trying to make smart tags in Word & Excel pull
contact information from a public folder - public address
book. We have about 4000 contacts that we share using
the public folder in exchange 2003. Does anyone know if
this is possible?
