SmartArt document saved in Word 97/2004

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

I have a smart art document that I saved in Word 97/2004 which caused it to be saved as a picture and now i cannot edit it or access the text. Can you tell me how to fix this so I can access the data? Do I have to start all over and save in a new format?

You may not have to "start all over" but you *do* have to Save As in the
..docx format - that's the one that supports SmartArt graphics.
