I have a user who wants to send the path to a file share to a bunch of
users. In Windows this can be done with the format
\\server-name\folder-name\document
and in Mac OS this can be done with
smb://server-name/folder-name/document.
So far so good.
A user on a Windows machine, using a mail client like Outlook (with
Exchange, BTW) for example, can click on the link and Windows will mount the
volume and open the document.
A Mac user, using Apple's Mail.app client, in either 10.4 or 10.5 (the only
OS versions I've tried this with) can click on the smb link and Mac OS will
mount the volume and open the document.
A Mac user using Entourage, however, appears to be SOL in this scenario. The
smb string doesn't even appear as a link in Entourage. Clicking on it does
nothing.
How can I fix this? Without requiring the Mac user to copy and paste the
path into the Connect to Server... dialog, that is.
