SMTP e-mail

I have configured our Project Server to use our smtp server to send e-mail.
I have set up notifications and reminders via PWA to go to recipients. I can
see in the event log that Project attempts to send the notifications,
however, I receive the following error messages when they they fail to
deliver:

How do I resolve?

Just as an FYI, I believe we have resolved this problem by going to our SMTP
server and creating a rule using the ip address of the project server and
that does not require strict RFC compliance.
