Snow Leopard breaking entourage duplicate events script

Since I upgraded to Snow Leopard Paul Berkowitz's Duplicate Calendar
Events X script fails; error (in script editor) is:

error "Microsoft Entourage got an error: Can’t make date \"Tuesday,
September 22, 2009 4:00:00 PM\" into type string." number -1700 from
date "Tuesday, September 22, 2009 4:00:00 PM" to string

Anyone have a fix?

You might try opening the script in the AppleScript Editor found in
/Applications/Utilities and simply saving it again.

If that doesn't work then it may not work under Snow Leopard at all.

Paul hasn't been an active MVP for about a year because of his personal
responsibilities. You might try contacting him for support but I'm not
sure if he's actively supporting his scripts anymore either.

Hope this helps!

Since I upgraded to Snow Leopard Paul Berkowitz's Duplicate Calendar
Events X script fails; error (in script editor) is:

It opens fine for me in the Script Editor in Snow Leopard, but it fails to
run in Entourage EWS version 13. I get an error about you need to open the
event in it's own window and it needs to be the active window. I do that and
it still gives me the error.

The script was written in 2002. I suspect it could be updated, but I don't
know enough about scripts to do it.

Hope this helps!

Bill,

Unfortunately that doesn't work -- Snow Leopard appears to have
changed the way AppleScript deals with dates.

I am more concerned, though, to hear that Paul is no longer a MVP --
before he stepped down, did he give anyone permission to update his
hugely valuable scripts?

I've taken a look at the script and a simple change in its syntax seems
to fix this issue. However, I've also read the notes on the purpose of
this script and believe it is probably not really needed anymore.

This script was written because Entourage X had no way to duplicate an
event; copy/paste didn't work and neither did drag-n-drop.

Today, in Entourage 2008 (maybe Entourage 2004?) an event can be
duplicated by holding down the Option key and dragging the event to a
new date. In Entourage 2008, this also works if you Option-drag the
event to a date on the mini calendar.

I can post the modified script on Diane's site for download (I would
like to get Paul's permission first, but if that's not possible I don't
think he'd object so long as I left all of his authoring information
intact.)

In the meantime, assuming you're using something newer than Entourage X,
try Option-dragging an event to a different date and see if this works
for you.

Let me know what you find.

Thanks for that tip -- I have not seen it documented anywhere, but it
definitely works in Entourage 2008
