software installation problem?

hi,
as of yesterday, i am the happy user of an ibook after my dell 'ate' my
research papers and i was less than happy with windows recovery
options...

but in attempting to install the office mac 2004 student and teacher
edition (the one with word, powerpoint, excel and msn) it is reported
that athough the program has superficially installed itself - ie on the
hard drive i am able to see the folder and open it to view all of the
individual icons, i cannot open them because it tells me to put them
back in the folder they were installed in (i havent moved them) or to
reinstall the program - which i did about 7 times. the program installs
fine until it comes to the end where i am presented with the option to
run the program at that moment, when i click on the option, it tells me
that this is not an option for me at this present moment. the computer
is both connected to the internet and the test version of the software
has also been trashed. i have restarted my computer numerous times and
also reinstalled the program always resulting in the same fashion.

if someone could lend a helping instruction i would be really really
grateful. im nearly positive its something im doing (or not doing)
because otherwise everything is working wonderfully; its just that i
cant think of anything else i might have done incorrectly and neither
the user manual or the support group seems to acknowledge my problem.

thank you in advance,

morgan

Before reinstalling the problem, did you ever run the Remove Office tool.
That should help. Also be sure to empty the trash. See here for best
practice on Removing and Reinstalling Office.
http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/RemoveReinstall.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

This does not sound familiar, so follow the suggestions there for a clean
start.
