Solver: what sort of routine

Greetings.

I would like to get our programmer to incorporate the Solver routine
into some software he is writing for us. He has even less maths than I
do.

I was wondering what sort of routine the Solver uses and how easily it
could be adapted for us.

The equation I am using is the 4 parameter EC50 model. I just need
some ammo to get my guy moving by himself!!
