The most Recent Office equivalent for Mac is NeoOffice 2.0.2 with patch
number .11.
Its the version of OpenOffice doesn't require the use of X11.
For Word Only there is a program called Amiword.
Not NeoOffice is only a Word/Excel Substitute.
What I would suggest is keep your Office 2004 on one partition ?hard
drive and update the Translators. Then if you have already purchased
2008 keep it on another Hard drive partitions for the new features.
Then go to help menu > Feedback and get on their case for all the items
you need in 2008 that were in 2004, that they screwed up either with
bugs or by deliberately leaving out.
It actually looks like the better deal to have all the current features
2004 and be able to send to folks that have 2007/2008 only, is to get
the Translators for 2004 (which are on Mactopia).
If everyone sends the product back, and just abandon Mac Office and do
not speak up for what you want, you are Playing right into Bill Gates
and Steve Balmer's hands.
If you can't even give away the product then they will have
justification for Pulling out of the Mac Market which is what MS has
been wanting in their heart since the days Gates was rebuffed by the two
Steve's when Apple started up. The day Apple goes chapter7 or 11 (which
they never will) will be the day Gates will jump for joy, do hand
springs, cartwheels, run up walls and sing halilouah!
Ok, for some of us tools such as solver were essential.
Can something be done?
Is there any realistic way to get something out of Microsoft ?
Can we get a refund and trash Excel - along with the entire Office 2008?
I think we are out of luck - if they do not care about the entire EU legal system (see recent EU fine against Microsoft), is there any hope for us?
Can any body recommend a good substitute for Excel (and the entire office) that may work the "old fashion way"?
