Some contacts not displaying properly when adding as email recipie

I have a bunch of people in my Contacts list in Outlook 2007. Most of them
work fine.

However, I have a dozen or so that don't automatically resolve when I enter
part of their name in the TO field. I tried clicking on the TO button and
adding them from the Contacts list that appears BUT these dozen entries all
show up in the list with an empty Name and Display Name field (all you see is
an email address). Even if I find the email address of the person I want,
double-clicking on it does nothing except add a ";" to the TO field.

When I examine some of these mystery contacts, they don't appear any
different from any of the other contacts that perform properly. They all have
Names, Display Names, File As names, etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Couple of different issues here. Entering names in the To: field uses
autocompletion, not autoresolution. That has nothing to do with your
Contacts and wouldn't be expected resolve to them unless you manually forced
resolution.
The second issue indicates that the Contacts that won't resolve are either
corrupt or the connection between your Outlook Address Book Service and
these Contacts is corrupt. If you recreate one of these problem Contacts
from scratch, can you select it from your address book and will it resolve?
Are you certain these Contacts reside in the same Contacts Folder your
address book view is displaying?

Re-entering a contact did away with the problem but I wasn't anxious to
re-enter all these contacts from scratch. After spending some time clicking
about, I did stumble upon a solution to the problem, which appears to point
to an Outlook bug of some kind:

By clicking in the File As drop-down menu, selecting a different choice (any
but what it was), then clicking in it again and re-selecting my original
choice (which was the default last name, first name).

After saving and closing the contact, the Display Name suddenly appeared in
the list And the name will now resolve when Check Names is clicked.

Thanks for your input.

Probably not an Outlook bug. More likely end user error in migrating data. I
suspect the problem Contacts were transferred by an unsupported method such
as importing. If so, simply opening and saving those Contact records will
get them to resolve. --
