I have some pictures from a friend's camera that I can't insert into slides in PowerPoint. I get this message: This application cannot open this file. This file is an unsupported graphic format or may be damaged. Try opening the graphic in another application. These are jpg files direct from the camera. What's going wrong here?

Hello Bobbo,

Do the JPGs open normally in Preview, Photoshop or other
photo editing applications?

Hi bobbo;

" jpg files direct from the camera " is what's going wrong :) JPEG is not
an absolute - it's a highly extensible format & most camera mfrs have their
own implementation based on the architecture of the CCDs they use as well as
other factors. Graphics apps can handle those formats & essentially
"process" them into a standardized JPEG format which other types of programs
(such as Word & PPt) can then recognize.

Import the files using iPhoto or similar or open & save them with Photoshop
or other decent graphics app & you should be able to use the results.
