some problems with OL 2007

Hi,

I have used OL XP (2002) for years and I was very happy. But some friends
convince me I should be more "modern" so I installed Office 2007, with Win XP
SP4.

It seems very complicated to me, but I have problems with Outlook. My emails
don't download "normally", I have to close OL and reopen it (of course
before, I did a send/receive and there was no email), not always though,
sometimes they download. To prevent your next question, they are mail that
should have been in my inbox for some time (a few hours).

Also I don't get an alert. "Before" I had a sound and a "new email has
arrived". Did I miss something or did something wrong? So I knew!

Could you please help me?

Hmmm.... I had not looked at the right place. Actually I have 2 profiles in
General:
Microsoft Outlook Internet settings
and MS Exchange settings.

I created a new one, but I am asked for an email, I have many, I entered
one, it is not recognized. I accepted to set the new profile without email,
but that seems strange. I have 2 computers in a Network, I installed Office
in both separately, I have the same problem in the other. What is the wrong
thing?

Very worried...

I have several POP3 accounts.

I miss something... the password my ISP gave me???? I tried this one, still
the same: "an encrypted connection to your mail server is not available Click
next to attempt using an uncrypted connection".... same result. (But)I didn't
put my default email, is it related? I don't remember I had so many problems
with OL 2002

What type of email accts do you have? Did you get any errors when it didn't
"accept it"?

Actually, I have been having the same problem since 2/10/09. That was the
last day I received emails in Outlook. I can get email from Thunderbird, and
OE.

I have setup a new profile as Diane suggested, but that does not work.
Setting up the neew profile required a connection with my IP and I got the
same message that L got. Could not connect to to my IP via encrypted or
unencryted. Set up account manually completing all the POP3 info and SMTP
info. I do a test message, and nothing to Outlook, but the message does go
to OE. Both programs have that the messages should be kept on server until I
delete them.

Have worked with Time Warner Road Runner for 6 days..only to determine it
appears that it is an Outlook problem.

Please help!!! And do not forget we are new users...be basic. Thank you

PS Uninstalling Office 2007 and reinstalling it does not work.

Not surprising. You, too, should benefit from creatring a new mail profile.

Have you verified your firewall is allowing outlook access?
Are you using antivirus, antispam or security software to scan email?
Go into control panel, add/remove programs and check the update dates of
windows, office, and security software. Do any correspond with the time
outlook stopped connecting?

I have deleted the former Outlook profile and created another one.
Windows CP 'Mail' created a new profile under outlook2.pst.

PSTs are not profiles. Don't get them confused. Create a new profile with
the Mail applet by clicking Show Profiles>Add. This creates a new key in
the registery. That's the profile.

In Control Panel 'Mail' it appears to send the test message OK. (Well,
it has been received into my ISP's Webmaik ok.)

On opening OL2007, My previous e-mails, tasks and contact appear to
have disappeared.

The Test Message does not appear.

I have extensive backups of pst files. elsewhere on my system.

How do I go about restoring all the previous stuff?

Use the Mail applet in Control Panel (the Data Files button) to add your old
PST. Use the "Set as Default" button on the Data Files tab to make that PST
the delivery location.

Thanks to you and Diane I have got OL2007 'working.

You're welcome.

It's just the restoration of the data in the 'old' pst files for
e-mails (not 1005 essential but necessary), Contacts (100% essential)
and Tasks (100% essential)

If you add the PST properly, everything in it will be available exactly as
it was the last time it was used in Outlook.

It seems that my post has been hijacked

I am happy that you helped some other clients, but that doesn't for me. I DO
recieve and send my email (no problem at all for sending), they just don't
show in my inbox as they arrive. And sometimes OL close unexpectedly.

And for a while I got "the site is momentarily down, please try again
later", I couldn't post although you were exchanging emails with the other
clients, so what happened?

Anyway.... I tried this other profile, but I am not sure what to do...

I recently installed a new firewall/email spam program (Outpost), totally
(hopefully) removed the previous ones with remove program and Ccleaner, so I
don't know which one holds the responsibility for my problems.

Could you please help me a bit more?

I can probably find them in the various backups but there are at least
17 differently numbers ones.

I am worried about messing it all up at this late stage as it has
taken me 16 days to get to this point.

Don't you know which PST was the active PST when last you used Outlook? If
not, it's a matter of finding which one. Do this by opening each in turn
with File>Open>Outlook Data File and examining the contents. If it's not
the one you want, right-click its root and choose Close. Continue until you
find the one you want, then make it the delivery location on the Data Files
tab of Tools>Account Settings. This all works best if you're using the
Folder List view of the Navigation Pane.

Is there a guide anywhere to some of this?
