Some questions about noteflags in Beta 2

Question 1 - noteflag icons seem to have changed
I was wondering if other users have found changes to their existing
noteflags when they've upgraded to Beta 2?

My icons and noteflags seem to have changed, which I find very confusing
because I got used to what the icons stood for.

I may have to reinstall the old version to see what icons I was using
previously (I backed up the preferences file and my old notes before I
upgraded of course!)

Question 2 - Is there a limit on the number of noteflags?

Does Onenote still limit the max number of noteflags in use?
I like to tag my notes with the topics they cover, so I need LOTS of noteflags

Noteflags have been greatly expanded. You can now have 100 of them. More to
come....

Wow , 100!

Thanks Kathy, looks like the team might have picked up on one of my
suggestions (regarding tagging and categorizing notes).

Please let us have as many categories / noteflags as possible in the final
release.

thanks

Paul

Having investigated further , I can definately confirm that onenote flags do
not import correctly from 2003 to Beta 2 2007.

One scenario it can't cope with for instance is when you have flagged the
same item with more than one noteflag (which i do all the time). So for
example, if you had 4 different noteflags against the item in 2003, you end
up with 4 copies of the same flag in 2007 beta

Let me check around in my notebooks and see if I can find an instance of
this. I am noticing that note flag summaries are being decidedly wierd for
converted files....

Daniel - I am running on two different machines and seeing something quite
similar. Give me a few minutes to take screen shots on the old machine,
transfer a copy of the section, insert it and log the bug.

No, I didn't uninstall Onenote 2003, but it isn't there anymore (though the
data is with the My Notebook folder from 2003). I notice 2007 has a new
folder in My Documents called Onenote Notebooks.

I think I selected an option that said upgrade from 2003 when I installed.

Never mind - I can not repro here. Put it down to two pages that looked
close but used two different sets of paired note flags.

(For those of you who could use a little humor... My husband just looked at
my notes and said if I ever died he would never be able to find anything -
too many pages with too much that looks the same on too many machines. My
response: Don't worry when testing is done some of the pages and sections
will go away. Didn't tell him they will get replaced with worse ones. Ah the
joys of being a trainer and beta tester :) )

We should be migrating your note flags from ON2003 to ON2007, but there
might be issues we need to work out. If you want you can log a bug on the
MS Connect site. Also here are directions on how to submit migration bugs
(which this is):
http://blogs.msdn.com/descapa/archive/2006/05/25/606605.aspx

Once we have this we can look into what is happening.
One scenario it can't cope with for instance is when you have flagged the
same item with more than one noteflag (which i do all the time). So for
example, if you had 4 different noteflags against the item in 2003, you
end
up with 4 copies of the same flag in 2007 beta

It should work that when you upgrade the 4 different items are still
different in the new version. That is how it has worked in our testing, and
I would like to know more about your problem. Do you have screenshots of
this that you could share?

Also in a later thread you said you thought you upgraded, if that is the
case we can confirm with the migration log.

Thank you much Paul!

I've sent the migration log
Feedback ID 79541
I'll also see if I can do a screenshot to show the problems. (though I don't
think I'll be able to show the before picture unless I re-install 2003)
When you've had a chance to look into this, I would be grateful for advice
on how to get around this, and if a patch/work around might be available.
Currently I'm considering going back to 2003 (I still have the 2003 files)
thanks
Paul

After looking into this some more I've discovered the problem doesn't seem to
be linked just to the converted files. If you open a read only 2003 file in
2007 the noteflags are also different.
